The banking crisis is just the touch of the ice berg, as it removes a chain of smoke and mirrors and begins to leave people with a large paradigm shift as to what is real and what is not and eventually more important issues like what really matters.

The recent U.S. Election was a part of that paradigm shift as those that did subscribe to the song Waiting For The World To Change, bought into the hope that Obamaites quickly embarrassed.

For those into marketing and demographics the other shift that been happening for some time, lead by other world leaders like Brno and Al Gore is capturing the LoHas community. Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability which of course includes not only health but the environment, self help/psychology and social justice.

The Music part of the equation which really started with Woody Guthrie and Pete Seger has transfered from the Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell's to both David Cook and David Archuleta this years American Idol Winners. Music is likely THE biggest opportunity to make this happen, and I personally am staking my future on it, but more than that it's all about leaving the world in a better place for our grandchildren.

In the 1970s country singer Mac Davis wrote a quitensentially positive song called I Believe In Music, it stated Music Is The Universal Launguage and Love Is the Key. Well wasn't it music that got the first official expedition envoy from Washington D.C. to North Korea as the philharmonic orchestra playing to the Korean audience and was able to do what nobody in the US has since the 1950s. Technically the countries are still at war.

So for my vote near the top of the global sustainability list, you would certainly need to include music as a new strategy.

On the contrary, greed is precisely what drives innovation in a free market. (Your call to market artistic expression to companies in this current economic crisis rather proves my point. ) A free market is a beautiful expression of problem-solving innovation through mass collaboration. Working hard to provide for my family is not so very different from making the world a better place. 6.725 Billion people working to solve myriad problems in a global economy is a lovely thing, a work of art!

Profits and numbers are mostly limited to hindsight. An artist could help a company create a more forward-looking approach to planning strategy and measuring success for long-range value. Check out Kaplan & Norton's "Balanced Scorecard" tool for measuring a company's performance. Maybe you can improve on their method.

Engaging in the works of an artist who conveys a truth about their life, is a journey to greater awareness for the viewer or participant. Perceptual and emotional awareness provides the best value to human experience. What good are profits and numbers if those invoved in making them are missing the richest part of their existence?
