She has an Honors BFA (Theatre: Theory and Analysis) from York University. She is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (NY) and recipient of its Jehlingher Award. She won a scholarship to study in Poland at the Grotowski workshop and the Film Institute in Lublin (Polanski’s alma mater). She was Co-artistic Director of Women’s Production Company (NYC), dedicated to women’s issues.
She was Creative Director on TANGOING WITH TORNADOES (a play about domestic violence) written by award winning Oregonian journalist, S. Renee Mitchell. Barbara and Renee transformed Tornadoes into a one-woman show which has been booked world-wide. http://www.youtube.com/user/sreneemitchellspeak.
She is proud to have worked with Teen actors (they interviewed, wrote and organized the shows) dealing with teen immigrants (Border Crossings) and Portland’s remaining holocaust survivors (NAKT: Stories from the Holocaust).
She is a member of NSA, AFTRA, SAG, AEA, ACTRA, NWCA and Itafari , a foundation dedicated to helping the people of Rwanda after the genocide www.itafari.org.
